Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 308: Birth Records of Children of Nathaniel and Eunice (Snow) Horton in Eastham, Mass.

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - time to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the birth records for the children of Nathaniel and Eunice (Snow) Horton of Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts:

The source citation for this record is:

"Massachusetts, Town Clerk, Vital and Town Records, 1627-2001," digital images, FamilySearch (http://familysearch.org : accessed 25 March 2016), Barnstable County, Eastham, Orleans, "Births, marriages, deaths, 1701-1796," page 84 (image 52 of 126), birth records of Nathaniel and Eunice Horton, 1743-1783; citing original data from Massachusetts town clerk records (on FHL US/CAN microfilms).

This record is probably the original recording of these names and dates.  This section of this record book is organized by family, usually three or four families to a page.  In this case, the recorder ran out of room at the bottom of the page.  There are several hands in this particular group of records.  Two of the children, Nathaniel in 1746 and Obediah in 1747 are out of order, meaning they were added after Jabez and before Hannah.

The spelling of the name Horton is Horting and then Horten.  The first name Nathaniel is never spelled correctly.  Eunice is sometimes spelled Unis.

The list of the children are also in several other vital records books from Eastham, but they are transcriptions of the above records entered after the initial recording.  The names are standardized but the birth dates are consistent.

Nathaniel and Eunice (Snow) Horton are my 5th great-grandparents.  I am descended from their daughter, Hannah Horton (1761-1797), who married Thomas Dill (1755-1838).
