Seavers in the News - 1953 Obituary for Miss Bernice Seaver in Winthrop, N.Y.

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a semi-regular feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Massena [N.Y.] Observer newspaper dated Monday, 19 March 1953:

The transcription of this article is:

"Last Rites for Miss Seaver

"Winthrop -- Funeral services for Miss Bernice Seaver, Main St., were conducted at her home at 2 p.m. Friday and were attended by many local and out-of-town guests.

"Miss Seaver died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1953 in Potsdam Hospital following an operation performed Oct. 6.

"The Rev. Joseph T. Bunton of Amber, N.Y., former local pastor, used portions of the Congregational belief in his remarks and as the result of a previous request by Miss Seaver, portions of the Episcopal service were also used.

"Nearly all persons at the home proceeded by auto to Union Cemetery in Buckton where interment was made in the Seaver family plot.

"Bearers were George Kennehan, Bernard Seaver, a cousin, Fred Hanson, Henry Wilkenson, Floys Dewitt and Warren C. Goodnow, all of Winthrop."

The source citation for this obituary is:

"Last Rites for Miss Seaver," obituary, The Massena [N.Y.] Observer,  Monday, 19 October 1953, page 5, column 32; NYS Historic Newspapers   (http://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/ : accessed 2 November 2017), Bernice Seaver obituary.

According to my family tree database, Bernice Ethel Seaver was born 10 April 1869 in Stockholm, St. Lawrence County, New York, the 5th child of Parley and Amanda (Kelsey) Seaver.  Apparently, she never married or had children.

The only identified relative in this obituary is Bernard Seaver, identified as a cousin.  I believe that this is Bernard Aloysius Seaver (1914-2001) of Stockholm, N.Y., who was a first cousin once removed to Bernice Seaver.

Bernice Seaver is my 4th cousin 3 time removed.  The common ancestors are my 6th great-grandparents Robert Seaver (1702-1752) and Eunice Rayment (1706-1772).
