Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 213: Birth Record of Nathan Gates (1767-1830) in Stow, Mass.

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - time to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the Birth Record for Nathan Gates (1767-1830) who was born in Stow, Massachusetts:

The entry for the birth of Nathan Gates:

A transcription of the entry is:

"Nathan Gates son of Simon and Susanna Gates Borne february 23 1767"

The source citation for this entry is:

Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988, digital images, Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com), "Stow Births, Marriages and Deaths," page 30 (penned, image 84 of 962), Nathan Gates entry.

This record is, I think, the Original Source record recorded soon after the birth event by the town clerk, who probably relied on information from Nathan's father, Simon Gates.  It is, I think Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the name and birth date of Nathan Gates in Stow, Massachusetts.  It is also Primary Information and Direct Evidence of his parent's names - Simon and Susanna Gates.

Nathan Gates is one of my fourth great-grandfathers, who had 15 children with his wife, Abigail Knowlton (1774-1855).  Their daughter, Abigail Gates (1797-1867), who married Benjamin Seaver (1791-1825), is my ancestor.
