Best of the Genea-Blogs - 17 to 23 May 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Looking Past Land and Probate Records by Marian Pierre-Louis on the Legacy News blog.  Marian highlights resources for research in urban areas, especially in New York,

*  How Do You Spell Genealogy? P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E by Janine Adams on the Organize Your  Family History blog.  Janine describes her journey and realization she should grow her tree sideways also.

*  The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.  Linda discusses genealogy research now and then (before the Internet).

*  Searching for at  #NGS2015GEN (Part 1) by the writer of The Ancestry Insider blog.  Mr. AI highlights Crista Cowan's talk at NGS.  Check out Crista's story at the end of this post.

*  Chasing That Probate by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Judy highlights the problem where folks owned land in more than one state.

*  The Fifth American Civil War Blog Post Challenge Roundup by Bill West on the West in New England blog.  There are seven interesting entries in this roundup.

*  If You Thought Genealogy Was Boring ... by Lisa Lisson on the Lisa Lisson blog.  I never have, but Lisa highlights articles that show hers is not boring.

*  Genealogy Societies: What Are They Good For? by Jacqi Stevens on the A Family Tapestry blog.  Good question, great answers.

*  Off to America, Thank You Dear Uncle ... by Erica Voolich on Erica's Adventures in Genealogy blog.  Erica shares family letters to and from Sweden in the 1860s.

*  Citations With My Phone by Michael John Neill on the blog.  Michael is at the FHL collecting records and citations.

*  Get It While You Can Genealogy: On Lost Opportunities by Debbie Mieszala on The Advancing Genealogist blog.  Words of wisdom here for all of us regretful researchers.

*  First Period Colonial House by Jeanie Roberts on The Family Connection blog.  Jeanie's article describes early colonial houses.  BTW, Anthony Colby is my ancestor too.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

*  My Memorable Monthly Mentions (AKA My Favorite Blogs This Month) by Jacquie Schattner on the Seeds to Tree blog.

*  Weekly Genealogy Finds - May 16-22nd by Nichelle Barra on the Copper Leaf Genealogy blog.

*  Recommended Reads by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.

*  GAGs - GeniAus Gems - 22 May 2015 by Jill Ball on the GeniAus blog.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1560 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
