Best of the Genea-Blogs - 13 to 19 September 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Family Finder Finds Family Bible and Family Finder Gift Just Keeps Giving by Dave Dowell on the Dr. D. Digs Up Ancestors blog.  Dave had an FTDNA match who had a family treasure.  Don't we all wish all of our DNA matches shared stuff like this?

*  GenStock 2015: Being an Early Adapter by Pollty Kimmitt on the PollyBlog.  This sounds really interesting and challenging.

*  Just How Badly Do You Want the Answer? by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.  Linda has been persistent - I enjoyed the research stories.

*  Five Ways to Improve the RootsMagic Genealogy App by Melody Lassalle on the Research Journal Genealogy Blog.  Melody has suggestions, I hope RootsMagic considers them.

*  What To Do When the Name on the Record is Wrong? by Amy Johnson Crow on the Amy Johnson Crow blog.  Amy describes one of her successful searches.

*  Soon the New Ancestry Will Be the Only Ancestry by the writer of The Ancestry Insider blog.  Mr. AI reviews what's going to happen, and suggests ways to suggest improvements.

*  British Research, Genealogical Cold Cases, and Township Records ~ Classes on Day 4 at the BYU Conference on Family History & Genealogy by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog.  Jana reviews her 4th day at the recent BYU Conference.

*  Please Compile Your Tree Again by Michael John Neill on the Rootdig.com blog.  Great idea, but a listing of errors would help.

*  10-Minute Methodology: "Reasonably Exhaustive" -- How Do We Know We're There? by Judy Kellar Fox on the BCG Springboard: News and Notes blog.  Judy has seven questions to ask ourselves.

*  The Other Other Woman by Jacqi Stevens on A Family Tapestry blog.  Jacqi unravels one twig of her family using census and vital records.

*  Dutch Genealogy Webinar - Questions About Records by Yvette Hoitink on the Dutch Genealogy blog.  Yvette answers viewer questions from the recent webinar.

*  Genealogy Humor:  7 Funny and Odd Inheritances & Bequests by Mary Harrell-Sesniak on the GenealogyBank Blog.  Good ones!!

*  There is no Cure for Progonoplexia by Jen Thorpe on the FamilyTree.com blog.  Who knew?  I thought it was Ancestoritis...but it has an actual Greek-based name.

^  The RootsEarch App -- Finding Records You Weren't Looking For by James Tanner on the Rejoice and Be Exceeding Glad blog.  James reviews this useful Chrome extension app.
