Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.
My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.
Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:
* Monday Mailbox: What Is a Record? by the writer of The Ancestry Insider blog. Good question, excellent answers.
* Using a Camera to Take Notes by James Tanner on the Genealogy's Star blog. James demonstrates the value of using his phone camera to save time at the FHL or other repositories.
* QuickLesson #23: No. Records Do Not Speak for Themselves by Elizabeth Shown Mills on the Evidence Explained blog. Elizabeth explains why with an interesting set of records.
* Her Choice, Not His and The Rest of Ann's Story by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogists blog. Judy shares an interesting probate puzzle and the outcome.
* Five Family Photos to Take This Year by Janet Hovorka on the Zap the Grandma Gap blog. Great suggestions.
