1) I am feeling significantly better healthwise - I still cough a bit, take a nap, sleep better, but I feel more robust and not exhausted all day.
2) I moderated the San Diego Genealogical Society (SDGS) RootsMagic User's Group on Saturday, 24 March, down at the FamilySearch Library. We had 9 attendees, including the new SDGS Education Director. The attendees had questions about the file folder options for data, GEDCOM, backup functions, saving your data to Dropbox, crafting source citations, and creating different types of reports.
3) After the RootsMagic meeting, I hustled down to Chula Vista for the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) joint meeting with the South Bay Historical Society (SBHS); SBHS is a relatively new organization which is focused on the early settlers of the area south of the city of San Diego - National City, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, San Ysidro, etc. There were about 70 attendees. The three speakers were Connie Rason-Gunther ("Early Families of Chula Vista"), Victor Contreras (Bonifacio Lopez - A California Rancher of the 1800s" - a theatrical interpretation); and Joaquin Blanco ("Life and Farming in the Otay Valley"). The snacks were good too!
4) I participated in the 26 March edition of the Mondays With Myrt webinar. In today's webinar, we discussed: RootsTech 2018 experiences and how to improve it; John Laws and Hilary Gadsby attended the Guild of One-Name Study conference in Wakefield, England; Family Tree Webinars has a 40% off sale - a good deal for a year of webinars; I discussed my reasons and examples of "Why do I blog about my personal research;" Russ discussed a cousin contact and his blogs; Anna attended the NARA New York seminar, and highlighted the NYGBS website; Pat visited Linkpendium.com and the Library of Congress sites, plus the U.S. Serial Set on GenealogyBank.
5) I have a new project - I am researching the ancestry of a local politician, and will present what I found at the CVGS Family History Day in September. The subject has been contacted, and I'm working with his relatives to obtain photographs and family stories. I started a family tree in RootsMagic and have been researching on Ancestry and other sites. The goal is to try to identify at least 2nd great-grandparents, find interesting stories about them, and attempt to find a famous historical person as a relative. 6) I have 271 Shared Ancestors on my AncestryDNA list (I had 265 last week), 799 4th cousins or closer (up from 784 last week), and 706 pages (over 35,300 matches with at least 5 cM) (was 691 pages last week) of matches. I have 13 matches that are third cousins or closer, and 93 matches with 34 cM (0.5%) or more (was 90 last week). My highest match has 779 cM (11.5%), and is one of my first cousins. I have 19 DNA Circles (up from 18 last week). Very few of the new matches have an Ancestry Member Tree.
7) I have 3,349 DNA Matches on MyHeritage (up from 3,249 last week) with at least 8 cM (0.1%), with 45 matches with more than 34 cM (0.5%) or more (was 26 last week). I have two close relatives, both first cousins twice removed. The highest match is 293 cM (4.0%). Most of my matches have very small trees with no common ancestors shown.
8) I have 1,077 DNA Relatives on 23andMe (I had 1,097 last week) who share at least 0.10% with me. Of these, only 1 shares 1.0% or more, and 38 share 0.50% or more (was 38 last week), with the highest match being 1.54%. I struggle to find out anything about most of these testers.
9) I have 2,486 autosomal DNA Matches on FamilyTreeDNA (up from 2,475 last week) who share 0.25% (18 cM) or more, with the highest match being 96 cM (1.42%). I have 12 who share at least 1.0% (68 cM) with me, and 1,342 who share at least 0.50% (34 cM) or more (was 1,335 last week) with me. I have had better luck finding shared ancestors here with a few of these testers.
10) There were occasional sessions working in RootsMagic to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other database families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 23,036 of my persons with FSFT. I now have 49,802 persons in my RootsMagic file. I TreeShared several times during the last week. There were also several sessions in Ancestry Hints to add content and source citations for the new RootsMagic profile additions. I've fallen behind on the Record Hints with 59,633 waiting to be resolved, but I'm working on them. Every time I add something to RootsMagic and TreeShare, the Hints multiply.
