It's Treasure Chest Thursday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.
The treasure today is the 1694/5 birth record of Mary Chase in the Newbury, Massachusetts town records:
The birth record is:
The transcription of the birth record is:
"Mary ye daughter of Thomas Chase & Rebecca his wife borne January 15^th [1694]"
Although the record page says "1694" at the top, the year should be written as "1694/5" since this birth occurred in the January after December 1694.
The source citation for this record is:
"Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988," indexed database and digital image, Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com : accessed 8 August 2018), "Newbury Births, Marriages and Deaths," page 51 (image 697 of 2384), Mary Chase birth entry.
Mary Chase (1695-1732) was the daughter of Thomas and Rebecca (Follansbee) Chase of Newbury, Massachusetts. She married John Horton (1696-1796) of Swansea, Massachusetts on 9 July 1719 in Swansea, Massachusetts.
This birth record is, I believe, a derivative source copy of the original town records in the Newbury town record books.
Thomas and Mary (Chase) Horton are my 6th great-grandparents. I am descended from their son Nathaniel Horton (1730-1819) who married Sarah Pray (1734-1820) in about 1755 and resided in Foster, Rhode Island.
