Seavers in the News -- Charles Seaver Dies in 1939 in Santa Maria, California

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a semi-regular feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Santa Cruz [Calif.] Sentinel newspaper dated 22 August 1939:

The transcription of the article is:

"Member of Pioneer Family dies

"Charles Seaver, a member of one of the early pioneer families, died on Saturday at Santa Maria, according to a message received by an old friend and neighbor, Commissioner Frank Roberts.

"The father of Mr. Seaver, William Seaver, was for many years a well known plasterer who came here in the fifties.  A sister, Marion, was a teacher in the schools, while another sister, Clara, conducted a needle and art goods store here.  Mr. Seaver was born in Santa Cruz and was about 68 years old.

"The Seaver family residence was on Third street on Beach Hill.

"Mr. Seaver attended the schools of this city and for many years was in the employ of the Henry Wiley hardware store.

"Funeral services will be held in Santa Maria, conducted by War veterans organizations.  Seaver is survived by one sister, Miss Alice Seaver, 66 Third street."

Charles A. Seaver (1872-1939) was the son of William Harvey Seaver (1821-1895) and Marian M. Watling (1836-1918).  He did not marry or have recorded children.

I do not know the parents of William Harvey Seaver even though he was born in Massachusetts, according to census records.
