Seavers in The News - Mrs. Don L. Seaver of Johnson, Vermont Dies in 1939

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Burlington [Vt.] Free Press newspaper dated 29 September 1939:

The transcription of the article is:

"Mrs. D.L. Seaver
(Special to the Free Press)

"She was born July 19,1863, at Glen Sutton, P.Q., but resided the greater part of her life in Belvidere, North Hyde Park and in this vicinity.

"Mr. and Mrs. Seaver would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary October 22.  Before his marriage, Mr. Seaver was a resident of Stowe.

"Mrs. Seaver leaves beside her husband, four sisters, Mrs. Elsie Bryant of West Springfield, Mass., Mrs. E.W. Potter of Belvidere Center, Mrs. A.M. Collins of Stowe, and Mrs. John Williams of Waterbury; and several nieces and nephews.

"Funeral services will be held at 2 Saturday afternoon at the home of her sister, Mrs. E.W. Potter at Belvidere Center.  Burial will be in the village cemetery beside the grave of her first husband, the late George A. Cheney."

This obituary provides a death date, a death place, a birth date and place, an anniversary date, a husband's name, a first husband's name, and the name and location of four sisters.

I had Don Lysander Seaver (1868-1945) in my RootsMagic database,  along with his wife Albina M.(Chaffee) Cheney (1863-1939).  A Vermont death record gave me her maiden name.  She was born 19 July 1863 in Glen Sutton, Quebec, and died 28 September 1939 in Johnson, Vermont.  She married (1) George A. Cheney (1857-1907) on 18 September 1881 in Belvidere, Vermont.  She married (2) Don Lysander Seaver on 21 October 1914 in Johnson, Vermont.  She had no children with either husband.

I am a 6th cousin 4 times removed to Don Lysander Seaver (1868-1945).  Our common Seaver ancestor is Robert Seaver (1608-1683), the immigrant who settled in Roxbury, Massachusetts in 1634.

There are over 9,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and some people live a long time, have more than one spouse, and never get their given name in the newspaper  I am glad that I can honor Albina M. (Chaffee) (Cheney) Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors, or will provide more information about them to me.
