Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 13 July 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Hosted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Research Group meeting on Wednesday in a Zoom meeting, with 12 attendees.  We discussed genealogy education opportunities, San Diego county land records searches, the trend to online video conferences, the MyHeritage photo enhancer, how to determine accurate spelling of a name, how many details do you put in a family tree profile, my Denmark research and my Hilperton tax records research.  The attendees shared their highlights in the second hour.

2)  Watched the San Diego Genealogical Society program meeting with friends Diane Gould Hall and Debby Warner Anderson discussing their Mayflower Society experiences on Saturday in a Zoom Webinar..

3)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt in a Zoom webinar.  We discussed panelist and attendees blogs, software updates and API conflicts, the MAAGI and GRIP online conferences, John Boeren's posthumous birth issue, Hilary's research breakthrough, Tony's "tree can e=be a source" post, my "How many details..." post, and Frank's German World War II KIA records.

4)  Watched one Family Tree Webinar -- The 1939 Register for Family Historians, by Fiona Brooker.

5)  Added birth, death and marriage evidence for my Mayflower Society application for Generations 7 and 8.  Still 5 generations to go.  The clock is ticking here, and I need to go to the local FHC to get some images.

6)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of 7th great-grandfather #548 Timothy Hamant  (1667-1718) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

8)  Added Notes to 16 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors.  Ancestry added 97 new DNA Matches this past week.  Reviewed new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

9) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 36,568 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 96).

10)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 58,267 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 64), and 124.129 source citations (up 360).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree two times this week updating 262 profiles, and I resolved 1248 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 132,091 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

11)  Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was Seavers in the News -- George W. Seaver Dies at Age 92 in Scott County, Indiana  with over 521 views.

12)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday, and it wasn't too busy.  We stayed home from church and watched the YouTube video.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy, eating and sleeping, plus reading the free mystery books I downloaded while watching TV.

Are you busy enough?

Wow, Randy: 97 new AncestryDNA matches this week? I'm jealous. My accounts have slowed down to about a handful of new adds for every two weeks...
