Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 7 September 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

2)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Board Meeting on Wednesday, reporting on the Research Group, DNA Group and Newsletter activities.  Wrote, edited and published the September 2020 CVGS Newsletter with 11 pages on Sunday.
2)  Presented two talks, "Using FamilySearch Digital Microfilm to Find Genealogical Records" and "Probate Records - My Favorite Record Type," to the Orange County, California Genealogical Society in a Zoom webinar on Saturday, with over 240 in attendance.

3)  Participated in Mondays With Myrt today.  We discussed Liv's 1901 transcribed letter of Ole Olson Uv in Norway on Facebook, and translations in general; my 52 Ancestors biography series; Software reports and ahnentafel lists; "Why use a software program?"; the Dutch Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam website; the Ontario Land Record site; copyright and record access; lookups for others on commercial sites.

4)  Watched one Family Tree Webinar -- "Using Chromosome Browsers, Segment Data and Triangulation," by Michelle Leonard.  Excellent!!!

5)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of 7th great-grandfather #556 Nathaniel Guild (1679-1774) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

6)  Transcribed the 1727 and 1728 inventories for the estate of John Fisher (1652-1727) of Medfield, Mass.  for Amanuensis Monday.  The real estate totaled £213.

7)  Added one AncestryDNA ThruLines to my RootsMagic tree, and added Notes to 6 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors.  Ancestry eliminated 35,230 small cM matches, and added 65 new DNA Matches this past week.  MyHeritage added 16 new DNA matches.    Reviewed new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

8) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 37,329 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 198).

9)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 58,837 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 87), and 126,019 source citations (up 229).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree once this week updating 143 profiles, and I resolved 496 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 133,834 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

10)  Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was 35,230 AncestryDNA Matches Are Gone! with over 291 views.

11)  Daughter Lori and her family headed for home on Saturday after two weeks of evacuation from the Santa Cruz fire.   Their house in Brookdale did not burn down, and they have power and good water, but the air is still smoky.

12)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday, and it wasn't too busy.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy, eating, sleeping and a little yard work, watching the Padres games, and reading a C.J. Box mystery book.  My Padres are now 25-17 and should make the playoffs.

Randy, so glad to hear Lori and her family have been able to return home again--and that she didn't lose anything back home. What a scare! Glad things are getting back under control...although from the looks of the smoke today, one could hardly tell...
