Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1649 Birth Record of John Young in Eastham, Massachusetts

It's Treasure Chest Tuesday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the birth entry for John Young (1649-1718) in the Eastham, Massachusetts town record book:

The John Young birth entry is the first record in the John & [Abigail] Young family record on the right-hand page above:
The transcription of this record is:

"John born Nov. 16, 1649"

The source citation for this record is:

Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988, indexed database and digital image, Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com : accessed 13 December 2012), "Orleans and Eastham Records," page 335 (image 176 of 185), John Young birth record, 16 November 1649; citing original data from Massachusetts town and city clerk records in Jay and Delene Holbrook, Massachusetts Vital and Town Records (Provo, Utah : Holbrook Research Institute), Microfiche collection.

This is a transcription of an original town record book for Eastham, Massachusetts, so it is a Derivative Source with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the birth of John Young and his father's name. It was faitly common for early Massachusetts town record books to list all of the children for a couple in these books.

John Young (1649-1718) was the son of John and Abigail (Howland) Young of Eastham, Massachusetts.  He married Ruth Cole (1651-1735) in about 1671 and they had 8 children, including Ruth Young (1688-1768) who married Samuel Brown (1686-1749)  in 1708.  John and Ruth (Cole) Young are my 7th great-grandparents.
