Seavers in the News -- Obituary of Maud Evelyn (White) Seaver (1873-1944) of San Pedro, California

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the News Pilot [San Pedro, Calif.] newspaper dated 8 July 1944:

The transcription of the article is:

"Maud Evelyn Seaver

"Funeral services for Mrs. Maud Evelyn Seaver, 71, who died yesterday in the San Pedro hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Mottel chapel, Third and Alamitos sts., Long Beach, with the Rev. F. Augustus Martyr officiating.

"Maud Evelyn Seaver," News-Pilot [San Pedro, Calif.] newspaper, obituary, Saturday, 8 July 1944, page 5, column 6, Maud Evelyn Seaver obituary;  Newspapers.com   (https://www.newspapers.com : accessed 29 October 2020).

This obituary provides a married name, a death date, a death place, an age, names of her spouse, children, grandchildren, siblings, and her residence.  Other than a church affiliation, there is nothing in this obituary about her life, interests, or cause of death.

Maud Evelyn (White) Seaver (1873-1944) was the daughter of Orin E. and Annie (Bolton) White of San Francisco.  She married Frank Guilford Seaver (1875-1955) in about 1897, probably in San Francisco.  They had three chldren:

*  Guilford Lucien Seaver (1898-1966), married Marguerite Grace Carmona (1898-1964) in about 1917.
*  Thayer White Seaver (1900-1969), married Minnie Gladys Huck (1902-1990) in 1923.
*  Orin Edward White (1907-1967) married Agatha Berkhoel (1911-2002) in 1935.

I don't know if I am related to Frank Guilford Seaver on his Seaver line because I cannot find parents for his grandfather, Gilford Lyman Seaver (1811-1879) who was born in Massachusetts and died in Santa Clara, California.  I am related to Frank through his mother's Whirtney line - the common ancestors are Nathaniel and Sarah (Hagar) Whitney, my 7th great-grandparents, so we are 6th cousins 2x removed.  I also have White families in New England, so I may be related to Maud, but I have not traced that line back in time.

There are over 9,500 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has few notable life achievements and a short obituary.  I am glad that I can honor Maud Evelyn (White) Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
