Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 25 October 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) DNA Interest Group Meeting on Zoom on Wednesday, with 17 in attendance.   We discussed Version 3 of FamilyTreeDNA's ethnicity estimates, the 23andMe+ subscription service and reduction in DNA match numbers to 1500, AncestryDNA adding unweighted shared DNA and longest segment data to the "Shared DNA" link for each match, and the MyHeritage update of their "Theory of Family Relativity."  In addition, Randy polled the attendees on the number of AncestryDNA matches and matches with more than 20 cMs.  The attendees posed questions about "common ancestors," online family trees, uploading DNA raw data to other websites, and how to find educational information about DNA science and analyzing matches.

2)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt.  We discussed using MyHeritage photo enhancing and colorizing for Mixtiles wall art, Vietnam era ship logs on NARA, the Mayflower project on FamilyTreeDNA, Family Tree Magazine state guides, vintage Philadelphia photos, Frank's "same name, same place" problem, Ancestry hints and suggested records, and coming Vivid Pix videos.

3)  Watched one Family Tree Webinars video - Using DNA Test Results to Confirm a Pedigree, by Angela Packer McGhie.

4)  Hung up my 6 Mixtiles (wedding photos of ancestral couples) in the spare bedroom on a blank wall. Now I need more!

5)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of my 7th great-grandfather #564 George Brown  (1652->1721) of Eastham, Mass. for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

7)  Added Notes to 27 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors.  Ancestry added 57 new DNA matches this past week.  I added 4 more ThruLines to my RootsMagic tree.  MyHeritage added 20 new DNA matches.   Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

8)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 38,094 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 87).

9)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 59,492 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 83), and 127,337 source citations (up 70).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree twice this week updating 160 profiles, and I resolved 401 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 137,182 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

10)  Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was Comments On Best Fee-Based and Free Genealogy Websites
with over 412 views.

11)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much in Week 32 of COVID-19 isolation.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday, and it wasn't too busy.  We visited Tami's family in Huntington Beach on Saturday to celebrate my birthday and Tami's birthday.   Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy, eating, sleeping and a little yard work, watching the baseball World Series games, and I started another new crime fiction  book series on my laptop.
