Seavers in the News -- Ernest M. Seaver Dies in Vermont in 1951

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Burlington [Vt.] Free Press newspaper dated 21 July 1951:

The transcription of the article is:

"ERNEST M. SEAVER

"WASHINGTON, July 20 -- Ernest Merrill Seaver, 78, native of Williamstown and long-time resident of Washington, died at Barre City Hospital at 7:20 this morning.  He had been in ill health and a patient at the hospital for about five weeks.

"Born in Williamstown Dec. 31, 1872, he was the son of Stillman and Zeruah (Wills) Seaver.  For about 16 years he was employed by the Flint Lumber Co.  In his later years he worked for himself as an electrician and carpenter.

"At the time of his death he was a trustee and treasurer of the Calef Memorial Library in Washington.

"On Oct. 31, 1899, he married Mabel I. Jeffords of Washington.  She survives him, as do a son, Lawrence H. Seaver of Barre; two grandchildren, Roy Seaver, USMC, Parris Island, S.C., and Anne Seaver of Barre; and several cousins."

This obituary provides a name, an age, a birth date and place, a death date and place, a marriage date and place, and the names of his wife, child, and grandchildren, plus a limited description of his work history.

Ernest Merrill Seaver was born 31 December 1872 in Williamstown, Vermont, the son of Stillman and Zerviah (Wills) Seaver.  He died 20 July 1951 in Barre, Vermont.  He married Mabel Isabel Jeffords  (1879-1978) on 31 October 1899 in Williamstown, Vermont.  They had one child:

*  Lawrence Hubert Seaver (1904-1989), married 1928 Marjorie May Bowen (1901-1971).

I am a 7th cousin three times removed to Ernest Merrill Seaver, with the common Seaver ancestor being robert Seaver (1608-1683), who settled in Roxbury, Massachusetts in 1634.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has a long life and a smaller family. I am glad that I can honor Ernest Merrill Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
