Randy and Linda at Niagara Falls in May 2004 -- Post 693 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday

I can't help it, I can't do a wordless post! This is one of my favorite photographs:

The next stop on our May 2004 vacation was Niagara Falls.  It was a dreary day but we braved the mist and the showers for the classic pose as the Maid in the Mist boat went by.  We took the boat trip a little later.  The falls are impressive.

The trip:  In May 2004, we flew east to celebrate my cousin's 50th wedding anniversary in Easton, Pennsylvania, and then did some sightseeing and genealogy research in New Jersey, New York, Ontario and Pennsylvania.  This is the only time I've been to these states to do research, and it was fascinating and fruitful and fun.

The Falls look very impressive at night when they project coloured lights on them! I wonder if the city was doing that in 2004. Did you and Linda walk up Clifton Hill? It is very, very steep and there's a bit of a carnival atmosphere with Ripley's Believe It Or Not and the various attractions. My daughter lived in that city for about four years.

I think we drove down to the Falls and back up to the hotel on the top of the hill, but I have no memory or photos of either the streets, or the hotel. I'm pretty sure we didn't go to Ripley's. It may have been a one night visit seeing the falls in the afternoon, staying overnight, and moving on the next day. I had planned to see my Kemp cousin Cheryl Taber in Hamilton that day we arrived, but she wasn't available. I also wanted to explore the Windham area of Norfolk county where my Kemps lived from about 1860 to 1902 but didn't get the chance. I should have visited Aurora, NY near Buffalo to search for my Vaux and Underhill families too. We moved on to Mercer County, Pennsylvania after leaving Niagara Falls - my mother's Carringer family was an early settler in Mercer County. Time was of the essence - we did the whole trip in two weeks, I think.
