Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1668 Birth Record of Ruth Cutler (1668-1738) in Reading, Massachusetts

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1668 birth record entry for Ruth Cutler in the Reading, Massachusetts town vital records book:

The marriage record is the fifth from the top of the Cutler section of the page:

The transcription of this record is:

"[CUTLER] Ruth, d. of Thomas, Feb. 2, 1668."

The source citation for this record is:

Thomas W. Baldwin (compiler), Vital Records of Reading, Massachusetts to the Year 1850 (Boston, Mass. : New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1912), Births, page 59, Ruth Cutler entry, 2 February 1668.

Ruth Cutler (1668-1738) was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Giles) Cutler of Reading, Massachusetts Bay.  She married John Smith (1667-1704) in 1693 in Charlestown; he was the son of Matthew and Alice (Leader?) Smith of Charlestown, Massachusetts Bay.  They had four children.

This is a Derivative Source record, copied and organized from original town record books for Reading.  It is Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the marriage.

John and Ruth (Cutler) Smith are my 7th great-grandparents through their daughter, Mary Smith (1698-ca1746), who married Ebenezer Phillips (1695-1746) in about 1717 in Charlestown.
