Introducing the MyHeritage Census Helper™ for the 1950 U.S. Census

 I received this information from Daniel Horowitz of MyHeritage today:

================================================

On the eve of the 1950 U.S Census release, I’m excited to tell you that not only will the census records be available to explore on MyHeritage very soon and for free, we have also just released a free tool that will help a great deal as you prepare to dive in: the Census Helper™.

The Census Helper™ scans your tree and automatically compiles a list of individuals appearing in it who are very likely to be found in the 1950 U.S. census, along with relevant details. Armed with this list, you’ll know exactly which family members to search for in the newly released records, and your research will be much more focused. You’ll also be able to research those individuals in the census records with the click of a button.

I encourage you to recommend to anyone who doesn’t have a tree on MyHeritage to upload it as a GEDCOM and use this tool for free, so they can get a head start on their research. They can do so via this landing page.

Discussion:  I have set this Census Helper off and watched it work - looking at every person in my latest MyHeritage family tree.  I expect it to find thousands of possible tree folks in the 1950 U.S. Census.  In a minute, it has found 47 people:

I don't know what the orange link will be - perhaps a link to a census page or the start of an Enumeration District.  Update:  It's a "Research" button for the person.  When MyHeritage has found the 1950 U.S. Census entry, it will be included on the "Research" button.  I saw it on the MyHeritage Census Helper blog post.

After another minute, it is up to 314 people, and it says 12% of the total - so it will be about 2500 matches.  Some may not be right for people without a death date.  To be clear - these are persons in my tree who might be in the 1950 census, but it likely won't highlight an accurate location in 1950.  It should be helpful!  In another two minutes, it's up to 814 matches at 11:36 a.m. PDT.  At 3:04 p.m., it is at 5767 (61% complete).  By 6:45 p.m. it was done - 16,920 people.  There is a button at the top of the list to download it as a CSV file.

Disclosure: I receive a complimentary subscription to MyHeritage, and gave received other material consideration in past years. I uploaded my autosomal DNA raw data to their DNA product. This does not affect my objective analysis of MyHeritage products.
