One of the deep rabbit holes that I have dug into in the past two weeks, is Massachusetts Land Records, 1620-1985 on FamilySearch; this is a follow-up post to Rabbit Holes With Randy - Which Mary Buck is Rebecca's Ancestor? published on August 25.
1) I want to find as many land records for a Samuel Buck of Sutton, Massachusetts up to about 1800 as I can, then find as many records for a Samuel Buck of Woburn in Middlesex County. My hope was the find information about each deed entry that identified the land, Samuel Buck's occupation, and perhaps the spouse's given name.
2) I made a word processor table to list everything consistently, trying to capture the Volume, Page number, Grantee name, Grantor name, the Year, the Town, The Transaction Date, the Recording Date, and Notes about Image numbers, Acreage, and Sale value.
To do this for a specific place, the user has to:
* Select the County.
* Find and Review the Grantee Index and search for the Surname and then the Given Name.
* Find and Review the Grantor Index and search for the Surname and Given Name.
* Note the Volume and Page Number for each entry.
* Find the specific Deed and note the Image number.
* Capture all of the needed information for each Deed in the Table.
* List the Deeds by Recorded Date.
3) Here is the list for Worcester County, for Samuel Buck persons up to about 1800:

- one a cordwainer, who first appears in the deeds in 1732 and last in 1754;
- another who is an innholder, who first appears in the deeds in 1765 and last in 1774;
- another who is a husbandman, probably the son of the cordwainer, who first appears in the deeds in 1746 and last in 1765; and is probably the yeoman in a 1748 deed.
- one who is a yeoman, who first appears in the deeds in 1778.
The cordwainer is the Samuel Buck who first bought land in Sutton in 1732, who had a 1760 will that named his son Samuel Buck and daughters Hannah Walker and Mary Case (married to Amos Case).
One of the four is likely Samuel Buck Jr. who is the only son of the cordwainer as shown in the 1746 entry, and is the husbandman. Unfortunately, his wife is not named in the deeds. He last appears in the deeds in 1765.
The innholder first appears in the deeds in 1760, and is probably a different Samuel Buck with a wife named Sarah - some entries say Jr. and some don't (if the Samuel Buck Sr. died then they stop using Jr in some cases). He may be the son of Samuel Buck Jr. or some other Buck of Worcester County at the time, or Middlesex County at some other time.
I need some more carrots (and some luck) to figure all of this out!
