Seavers in the News -- 1969 Obituary of Mrs. Ruth Seaver of Long Beach, California

 Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Independent [Long Beach, Calif.] newspaper dated 20 March 1969, page 55:

The transcription of the article is:

"SEAVER

"[Seaver] Ruth (Mrs.), age 83 of 2900 E.7th St., Long Beach.  Passed away March 19th.  Survived by daughters Mrs. Esther Sweetland and Mrs. Lois Killian.  3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.  Chapel service and interment 10:30 a.m. Friday Westminster Memorial Park Mortuary and Cemetery."

The source citation is:

"Seaver," Independent (Long Beach, Calif.], Thursday, 20 March 1969, page 55, column 3, Mrs. Ruth Seaver obituary; Newspapers.com   (https://www.newspapers.com : accessed 14 November 2022).

This obituary identifies her married name, age, no birth date or location, no parent's names, death date and place, names of two children, no work history, no associations, and no cause of death information.

Ruth (Smith) Seaver was born 13 November 1885 in Vermont.  She married Dean Charles Newcomb Seaver (1889-1941) on 18 January 1911 in Los Angeles, California.  She died 19 March 1969 in Long Beach, California.  They had two children:

*  Esther N. Seaver (1911-2000), married 1935 Rodgers Alvin Sweetland (1911-2007).
*  Lois Madeline Seaver (1916-2003), married 1937 Clinton M. Killian (1913-2001).

Dean Charles Newcomb Seaver is my eighth cousin twice removed.  Our common Seaver ancestor is my 9th great-grandfather Robert Seaver (1608-1683).

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has a very short obituary.  I am glad that I can honor Ruby (Smith) Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
