52 Ancestors - Week 458: #729 Mehitable (Garnsey) Horton (1673-1742) of Milton and Rehoboth, Massachusetts

Mehitable Garnsey (1673-1742)   is #729 on my Ahnentafel List, my 7th great-grandmother, who married #728  John Horton (1672-1752) before 1690 in Milton, Massachusetts.

I am descended through:

Mehitable Garnsey was born 2 November 1673 in Milton, Massachusetts, the eldest child of John and Elizabeth (--?--) Garnsey[1-4].  She was baptized 2 September 1677 in Dorchester, Massachusetts[3].

Mehitable married John Horton (1672-1753) in Milton in about 1690[1-5].  John was the son of Thomas and Sarah (--?--) Horton of Milton and Rehoboth.  John and Mehitable (Garnsey) Horton had six children, all born in Rehoboth but not recorded in the town records:

*  Sarah Horton (1692-1725), married 1712 to John Millard (1692-1728).
*  Jonathan Horton (1695-1774), married 1725 Ann Millard (1706-1751).
*  John Horton (1696-1796), married (1) 1719 Mary Chase (1694-1733) (2) 1756 Elizabeth (a1705-1784)
*  Thomas Horton (1698-1733), married 1721 Kesiah Carpenter )1697-1763).
*  Jotham Horton (1705-1797), married 1729 Hannah Martin (1704-1739).
*  Hezekiah Horton (1714-1787), married 1735 Mary Martin (1715-1802).

Mehitable's father, John Garnsey of Rehoboth, died intestate on 31 March 1722, and his estate was probated by the Bristol County (Massachusetts) Probate Court[5].  The division of the personal estate of John Garnsey of Rehoboth was made so that:
  • "widow Sarah Garnsey received one third of the personal estate, 26 pounds, 2 shillings.
  • Henry Garnsey, the eldest son, received 2 shares of the remainder, or 8 pounds, 10 shillings, 10 pence.
  • Ebenezer Garnsey, Joseph Garnsey, John Garney, Seth Garnsey; Mehetible Horton (wife of John Horton), Hannah Horton (wife of Thomas Horton), Elizabeth Bowen (wife of James Bowen), Mary Hix (wife of Samuel Hix), Waitstill Titus (wife of Timothy Titus) and Beriah Garnsey (son, whose guardian is Jacob Ormsbery) were granted one share each of 4 pounds, 5 shillings, 5 pence. The division was dated 13 July 1722."
Mehitable (Garnsey) Horton, wife of John, died 15 October 1742 in Rehoboth, Massachusetts[1-4,6].

There is no extant burial record for Mehitable, and there are no known probate records for Mehitable Horton.
