Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1672 Marriage Record of Jeremiah Smith and Mary Gereardy in Warwick, Rhode Island

 I looked in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and   genealogy musings for Treasure Chest Thursday.

The treasure today is the 1672 marriage record of  Jeremiah Smith and Mary Gereardy in Warwick, Rhode Island:

The marriage record is the second record at the top of the page:

The transcription of this marriage record is:

"SMITH, Jeremiah (-1720) & Mary GEREARDY (-1722+); 2 Jan 1672; Warwick, RI/Prudence Isl./Portsmouth, RI"

The source citation for this record is:

"New England Marriages Prior to 1700," online database with digital images, Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com), page 683, Jeremiah Smith and Mary Gereardy entry, 2 January 1672;
Original data: Clarence A. Torrey, New England Marriages Prior to 1700 (Baltimore, MD, USA: Genealogical Publishing Co., 2004).

This record is a Derivative Source, with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the marriage of Jeremiah Smith and Mary Gereardy, the daughter of Jan and in Warwick, Rhode Island in 1672. The original record is probably in a Warwick town record book that is no longer extant.

Jeremiah Smith (a1675-1722) was born in about 1648 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, the son of John and Margaret (--?--) Smith. He married Mary Gereardy (1654-1722), the daughter of Jan and Meribah (Sweet) Gereardy, on 2 January 1672 in Warwick, Rhode Island. They had six children.

Jeremiah and Mary (Gereardy) Smith are my 8th great-grandparents. I am descended through their son, Ephraim Smith (a1675-1722), who married Margaret Pearce (1689-????) in about 1710 in Portsmouth.
