Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 18 June 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Research Group Meeting on Wednesday.  We discussed the Reimagine mobile app, MyHeritage Photos, 1931 Canada census, artificial intelligence, cleaning out genealogy caves, and artifact and photo treasures found.

2)  Attended a meeting with CVGS leadership to update and improve the Standard Operating Procedures for the society Newsletter and Research/Queries positions on the Board.

3)  Continued tagging, enhancing/colorizing, and captioning scanned photos on MyHeritage Photos, then saving them to my desktop computer photo files.

4)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for #106 4th great-grandfather Isaac Lanfear (1777-1851) of Lorraine, New York for the 52 Ancestors series on Friday.  I've written 484 of these sketches for my ancestors.

5)  Transcribed the one page 1911 Will of Robert A. Seaver (1827-1916) of Manchester, New Hampshire for the Amanuensis Monday series.

6)  AncestryDNA now has 43,432 DNA matches (up 60 from 11 June) for me today, with no new ThruLines.   I added no Notes to my new matches.  MyHeritageDNA now has 11,452 DNA matches (up 13 from 11 June) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

7)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 49,539 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 1).

8) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 71,088 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 2), and 146,039  source citations (up 7). I TreeShared 36 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 387 Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 177,782 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

9) Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Monday through Sunday), of which three were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Dear Randy - Who Are Your Favorite Genealogy Bloggers? with over 168 views.  Genea-Musings had about 53,300 views last week.

10)  Real life:  This is week 170 (over three years!) since COVID restrictions started.   I stayed home except for visiting Linda every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.  Attended the Rohr Engineers luncheon on Thursday.  Trimmed the rose bushes in front of the house but I can't reach some branches.  My father's day gift to myself was a new Legxcersizer and I started using it to relieve neuropathy.  One daughter had a Domino's pizza delivered on Sunday, and the second daughter gave me Junior Mints to snack on.

I'm still sorting out stuff from the closet and the genealogy cave - save, toss or donate.  Walked every day on the block and talked to several neighbors.  I finished reading Storm Watch by C.J. Box and started the John Grisham book Sparring Partners.  The Padres season continued, and I watched all of the games this past week.  They are 35-36 so far (4-2 this past week) and in fourth place in the NL West division.
