Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 2 July 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Annual Picnic on Wednesday at the Seat home in Bonita with 14 in attendance.  We talked a lot, had hamburgers, hotdogs, salads, fruits, veggies, desserts, and more.  We played Genealogy Jeopardy Bingo for fun.  It was great seeing folks in person.

2)  Continued tagging, enhancing/colorizing, and captioning scanned photos on MyHeritage Photos, then renaming and saving them to my desktop computer photo files.

3)  Continued scanning my Aunt Gerry's 37 page typed (yes, on a typewriter only) autobiography using the free TextScanner mobile app.  It permits only three free scans a day.  I've scanned all the pages now, but need to proofread the last 7 pages.  The transcription is imperfect because the text is light and single spaced.  I send the text transcriptions to my email, then copy/paste into a document, and then proof the transcription with the original typed document.

4)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for  7th great-grandfather #880 Sampson Underhill (1692-1732) of Salisbury, Massachusetts and Chester, New Hampshire for the 52 Ancestors series on Friday.  I've written 486 of these sketches for my ancestors.

5)  Transcribed the one page 1898 Will of Eben Seaver of Bristol, New Hampshire for the Amanuensis Monday series.

6)  AncestryDNA now has 43,532 DNA matches (up 37 from 25 June) for me today, with no new ThruLines.   I added no Notes to my new matches.  MyHeritageDNA now has 11,493 DNA matches (up 23 from 25 June) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

7)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 49,583 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 13).

8) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 71,137 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 13), and 146,073  source citations (up 13). I TreeShared no new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 181 Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 177,775 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

9) Wrote 15 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Rabbit Holes With Randy - Scanning Typed Text to Digital Text  with over 161 views.  Genea-Musings had about 62,200 page views last week.

10)  Real life:  This is week 173 (over three years!) since COVID restrictions started.   I stayed home except for visiting Linda every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.  I'm still sorting out stuff from the closet and the genealogy cave - save, toss or donate.  Walked every day on the block and talked to several neighbors. Went to the CVGS picnic on Wednesday, to the Men's Bible Study on Saturday morning, and to the church picnic and drone show on Sunday evening.  I finished reading the James Patterson book The Cornwalls Are Gone and started the Jonathan Kellerman book Serpentine.  The Padres season continued, and I watched all of the games this past week.  They are 38-46 so far (1-5 this past week) and mired in fourth place in the NL West division.
