Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 23 July 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Intgerest Group Meeting on Wednesday.  Reported on LivingDNA, Peter Calvers' DNA MasterClass and newsletter, and DNA Painter tools.  Discussed homework, and described homework for the next meeting.

2)  Continued tagging, enhancing/colorizing, and captioning scanned photos on MyHeritage Photos, then renaming and saving them to my desktop computer photo files.  Found more photos, some new to me, in boxes and files.

3)  Created PDFs of about 60 more "52 Ancestors" posts and saved them.

4)  Wrote another Six Generations Descendants Report - this one for 4th great-grandparents James and Mary (Palmer) Vaux.   Added the latest reports to the Genea-Musings "Randy's Ancestors" page.

5)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for  7th great-grandfather #884 Joseph Colby (1680-1754) of Amesbury, Massachusetts and Hampstead, New Hampshire for the 52 Ancestors series on Friday.  I've written 489 of these sketches for my ancestors.

6)  Transcribed the two page 1912 Will of Frank A. Seaver (1875-1920) in Kings County, New York for the Amanuensis Monday series.  I've transcribed about 690 records in this series.

7)  AncestryDNA now has 43,668 DNA matches (up 62 from 16 July) for me today, with no new ThruLines.   I added Notes to two  new matches.  MyHeritageDNA now has 11,556 DNA matches (up 22 from 16 July) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

8)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 49,651 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 60).

9) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 71,208 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 58), and 146,122  source citations (up 24). I TreeShared 93 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 250 Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 177,720 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

10) Wrote 15 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Best of the Genea-Blogs - Week of 9 to 15 July 2023 with over 165 views.  Genea-Musings had about 33,900 page views last week.

11)  Real life:  This is week 176 since COVID restrictions started.   I stayed home except for visiting Linda every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Walked every day on the block and talked to several neighbors.  Used the lawnmower on part of the back yard.  Had a significant desktop computer failure - finally got it restarted and transferred recent new files to Dropbox and Google Drive.  Finished reading the John Sandford book Storm Prey and started James Patterson's The Russian. The Padres season continued, and I watched all of the games this past week.  They are 48-52 so far (4-2 this past week) and mired in fourth place in the NL West division.
