Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 12 November 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Research Group Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom.  We discussed the Norwegian research book, Ancestry's membership sale, early DNA sales, two-factor authentication, RootsTech 2024, and using ChatGPT to create ancestor biographies.

3)  Attended the SDGS Program meeting on Zoom on Saturday, with Lisa Alzo speaking on Eastern European genealogy research and finding and using Coroners records.

3)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for #1004 Jonathan Lewis (1688-1765) of Huntington and Richmond, New York for the 52 Ancestors theme.  This is my 503rd post in this series.

4)  Transcribed the 1883 Will of David Seaver (1833-1892) of New York County, New York for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

5)  Experimented with ChatGPT to write an ancestor biography using a Timeline in Writing an AI Narrative Report in ChatGPT for David Auble (1817-1894).

6)  Worked in the Wiltshire baptisms, marriages and death record collections on Ancestry to find records for my Richman and Marshman ancestors and added contents and source citations to RootsMagic as required.

7)  AncestryDNA now has 44,330 DNA matches (up 41 from 5 November) for me today, with no new ThruLines.  I added Notes to 6 matches, and the DNA Match line for no ThruLines to RootsMagic.  MyHeritageDNA now has 11,931 DNA matches (up 19 from 5 November) for me, with no new Theories.  Checked for triangulated groups for one MyHeritageDNA match and added notes to 3 matches.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

8)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 50,050 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 10).

9) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 71,646 persons in my RootsMagic family tree (up 15), and 146,313 source citations (up 40).  Resolved 910 Ancestry Hints. TreeShared 77 new and updated profiles with my Ancestry tree.  My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 13,039 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

10) Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which three were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Writing an AI Narrative Report in ChatGPT for David Auble (1817-1894) with over 245 views.  Genea-Musings had about 12,200 page views last week.

11)  Real life:  This is week 192 since COVID restrictions started.   I stayed home except for visiting Linda almost every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Went shopping on Monday and Friday.  Walked almost every day on the block and talked to several neighbors.  Continued reading James Patterson's The Inn. My SDSU football Aztecs lost to Colorado State on Saturday, the basketball Aztecs lost to BYU, and the Chargers won last Monday over Jets but lost Sunday to the Lions (so now 4-5).  Watched some college football on Saturday and NFL football on Sunday.
