Seavers in the News -- 1977 Obituary for Russell J. Seaver (1907-1977) of Barberton, Ohio

 Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Akron [Ohio] Beacon Journal newspaper dated 12 May 1977, page 28:

"Russell J. Seaver

"BARBERTON -- Russell J. Seaver, 69 years, of 988 Wooster rd. W., died May 10 at Citizens Hospital.

"He was born in Akron and had been a Barberton resident for 48 years.  He was employed by the PPG Company for 43 years as a pipe fitter, retiring 8 years ago.  He was a member of the Columbia United Church of Christ, and the PPG 20 year club.

"He is survived by wife Helen; sons Russell L. of Upland, California, Norman of Detroit, Michigan, Donald of Ravenswood, W.Va., and Daryl of Barberton;  daughter, Carole, of Barberton; brother, Ernest, of Barberton; sisters, Mrs. Alice Rector, of Akron, Mrs. Martha Hornbeck and Mrs. Lois Hughes, both of Barberton; 20 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.

"Funeral services Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Hahn Funeral Home, Rev. Ralph Young officiating.  Interment Crown Hill Cemetery, Orrville, Ohio.  Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. (Hahn 825-2467)."

This obituary provides the name, age, death day, death place, occupation, work experience, memberships, wife's name, children names, siblings names, burial place, services and visitation, but not birth day, parents names, or cause of death.

Russell Jacob Seaver (1907-1977) was born 27 August 1907 in Doylestown, Ohio, the son of Charles Earnest and Lettie May (Youngker) Seaver.  He died 10 May 1977 in Barberton, Ohio.  He married Helen Marie Miller (1913-1987) on 23 February 1929 in Wayne County, Ohio.  They had five children:

*  Russell Lee Seaver (1930-2005), married (1) Capitola Faye Easterling (1937-2007); (2) Dorothy Charlotte Green (1947-????).

*  Norman Eugene Seaver (1932-2011), married (1) 1953 Catherine Mae Balsamo-Pagliolo (1927-1980); (2) 1982 Genevie R. Cramer (1930-2011).

*  Donald Carlyle Seaver (1934-2001), married Esther Jane Fleeger (1932-2005).

*  Carole Jeanne Seaver (1940-2006).

*  Daryl Lynn Seaver (1944-1996), married 1966 Beverly Ann Sutton (1947-????).

I am not a Seaver cousin to Russell Jacob Seaver (1907-1977).  He is a descendant of Christian and Lydia (Kissinger) Seaver of Pennsylvania and of German descent.  

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this is one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has an obituary with great family details.  I am glad that I can honor Russell J. Seaver today.  

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
