Seavers in the News -- 1978 Obituary of Marian B. Seaver (1800-1978) of Wilmington, Delaware

Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The News Journal [Wilmington, Del.] newspaper dated Wednesday, 8 June 1978, page 10, Column 3:

The transcription of the article is:

"Marian B. Seaver

"Marian B. Seaver, 78, of the Tilton Terrace Nursing Home, 801 N. Broom St., died at the home Sunday after a short illness.

"Mrs. Seaver's husband, George N., died in 1964.  She is survived by a son from a previous marriage, Donalfd G. Barlowe, of Decatur, Tenn., and a brother, Frank M. Jefferis of Wilmington.

"The funeral services will be private.  The family asks that no flowers be sent"

This obituary provides the decedent's name, death day, age, spouse's name, parents' names, child's name, siblings name, but not birth date or place, parents' names, occupation, place of work or associations.

Marian B. (Jefferis) Seaver (1900-1978) was born 26 January 1900 in Wilmington, Delaware, and died 4 June 1978 in Wilmington, Delaware.  She married (2) George Nathaniel Seaver (1904-1964) in the 1930s.  They had no children.

I am not related to Marian B. (Jeffries) Seaver to my knowledge, but I probably am related to George Nathaniel Seaver.  George's 2nd great-grandfather was George W. Seaver (1806-1858) who married Emily Chamberlain (1811-1872) in 1831 in Thompson, Connecticut.  I don't know who George W. Seaver's parents are; however, they may be Edward and Lucinda (Harris) Seaver of Westborough, Massachusetts; if that is the case, then George Nathaniel Seaver is my 5th cousin 2 times removed.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this is one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person's obituary has very little information about the deceased person.  I am glad that I can honor Marian B. (Jeffries) Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
