Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.
This week's entry is from the Tampa Bay [Fla.] Times newspaper dated Monday, 21 April 1980, Page 3, Column 2:
The transcription of the article is:
"SEAVER, WILLIAM S., 79, of 5164 Coral Way N., died Saturday (April 19,1980). Born in Salamance, N.Y., he came here in 1968 from Hamburg, N.Y., where he was a foreman for a chemical plant. This obituary provides a good, but short, summary of the life and family of William S. Seaver, along with his employment and associations.
William Seldon Seaver (1900-1980) was born 13 May 1900 in Salamanca, New York, the son of William Seldon and Augusta Trowbridge (Hodges) Seaver. He died 19 April 1980 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He married (1) Gretchen Elsie Gast (1900-1979) on 31 March 1921 in Chautauqua County, New York. They had one child:
* David John Seaver (1930-1999), married Patricia J. Caunitz (1924-2015).
William married (2) Virginia A. Walton (1907-1999). They had no children.
William Seldon Seaver (1900-1980) is not a Seaver cousin to my knowledge - he is descended from Daniel nd Maria (Emons) Seaver who settled in New York before 1830. Census records indicate that Daniel was born in Massachusetts in 1800, but I have been unable to find his parents names.
There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this is one of them. Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has a short but informative obituary with detailed information. I am glad that I can honor William S. Seaver today.
You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
