Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 13 October 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Research Group Board Meeting on Wednesday with 16 in attendance.  We discussed additons to Full-Text Search, The Hollywood Strangler book, RootsTech 2025, genealogy software, my interview, AI questions, and research goals..

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society Program Meeting on Zoom on Saturday with Brian Rhinehart presenting two excellent talks on Civil War and War of 1812 pension research.

3)  Participated in Mondays With Myrt on Monday, and we discussed AI transcription and translation, AI class videos, my AI post page, and the new Google NotebookLM feature.

4)  Transcribed the 1892 Mortgage Discharge of  James A. Kemp for Land in Middleton Township, Norfolk County, Ontario for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

5)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my 2nd Great-GrandAunt Abigail (Seaver) Monroe (1817-1899) of Massachusetts for the 52 Relatives theme.

7)  Worked in the new Google NotebookLM AI tool that can summarize and analyze a text document and produce a "Paper to Podcast" audio file.  Wrote
Betty (Carringer) Seaver's Life Summary, Chat Q&A and Audio Overview Using the Google NotebookLM AI Feature.  The link to the Audio Overview for my mother is in   https://notebooklm.google.com/notebook/ce047ccd-d0b1-4a82-a14a-87bf2b13c4ce/audio.

8)  Requested six AI tools to create a poem and song lyrics my grandfather, Frederick walton Seaver (1876-1942) and had Suno.com create a song.  I posted the poem created by Claude AI,  the song lyrics created by CoPilot AI, and the Suno song in  "Frederick's Labors and Loves" - A Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

9)  AncestryDNA changed their "Origins" page, and I discussed my "updated" results in   AncestryDNA Updated Their Ethnicity Estimate (Now Called Origins).

10)  AncestryDNA now has 47,055 DNA matches (up 39 from 6 October) with 1990 "close" matches for me today, with no new ThruLines.  I added Notes to 1 new Match, and added 1 new lines of a  match to my RootsMagic tree.  Added 2 new DNA match lines to RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 12,927 DNA matches (up 21 from 6 October) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

11)  Created more short narrative reports in RootsMagic 10 for more ancestors in New England and New Jersey and added the reports to their Person Notes.  The reports include the info about each person, their spouse, their children, research notes, and sources.  Also continued editing place names in RootsMagic to reflect historical place names rather than current place names.  There are a lot more to do!

12)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 52,080  of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 29).

13)  Searched for more records of several ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 73,773 profiles (up 29 from last week) and 147,241 source citations (up 2).

14) Wrote 20 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which one was a press release. The most viewed post last week was "Bessie's Symphony of Love" - A Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence with over 299 views.  Genea-Musings had about 231,000 page views last week and over 1,032,000 views for the past month.

15)  Real life:  Visited Linda almost every day at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.   Still reading The Murder Book by Jonathan Kellerman and started The Hollywood Strangler by Nathan Dylan Goodwin.  My Padres went 1-2 against the Dodgers in the National League Division Series playoff and are done for the year.    My SDSU Aztecs won 27-24 over Wyoming, and my LA/SD Chargers won 23-16 over Denver Broncos.
