Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending Sunday, 12 October 2025).
1) Hosted and moderated the monthly Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Research Group Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom. We discussed the potential Ancestry sale/IPO, RootsTech 2026 registration, AncestryDNA ethnicity update, 23andMe ethnicity update, The Great Migration books, RootsMagic 11, etc.
2) Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society Program meeting on Saturday on Zoom. Karen Fortin presented on King Philip's War and Orphan Trains. 3) Transcribed the 1700 land deed of Andrew Dewing selling land in Dedham, Mass. to my 8th great-grandfather John Plimpton.
4) Curated genealogy-related articles to keep myself and my readers updated on the genealogy world in:
5) Wrote two "ABC Biographies" using my AI-assisted "Ancestor Biography Creation" process, and one Life Memory post, and posted them on Genea-Musings and Substack, in:
6) Requested free AI tools to tell me about these genealogy and family history subjects, and posted them on Genea-Musings and Substack:
10) My AncestryDNA now has 49,952 DNA matches (up 16 from 5 October) with 2,121 "close" matches today (up 3), with no new ThruLines. AncestryDNA updated my ethnicity estimate. Added Notes to 3 Matches, and added no new DNA match lines to RootsMagic. MyHeritageDNA now has 13,814 DNA matches (up 11 from 5 October) for me. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA and MyHeritageDNA.
11) Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles. My RootsMagic family tree now has 74,757 profiles (up 0 from last week) and 147,882 source citations (up 3).
12) Wrote 21 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which one was a press release. The most viewed post last week was ABC Biography of #60 Abraham Kemp (1795-after 1881) of Ontario with over 258 views. Genea-Musings had about 121,000 page views last week and over 1,010,000 views over the past month (lots of bots I fear).
13) Real life events: Visited Linda several days at her memory care facility and we played Uno and catch the beach ball out on the patio. Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Took the car for maintenance on Thursday. Still reading The Third Bullet by Stephen Hunter. Watched the baseball playoffs off and on. Watched the Charger game on Sunday and they won, so are now 4-2 on the season.
