Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending Sunday, 2 August 2026).
1) Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) General Meeting on Wednesday with Allison DePrey Singleton as the speaker on "Getting to Know The Genealogy Center: Researching from Home" (about Allen County Public Library offerings).
2) Attened the San Diego Genealogical Society (SDGS) DNA Interest Group meeting on Saturday with Colin Whitney presenting his "Ancestry 2026" update.
3) Curated genealogy-related articles to keep myself and my readers updated on the genealogy world in:
- Genealogy News Bytes - Week of 225 to 28 July 2026
- Genealogy Education Bytes - Week of 23 to 29 July 2026
- Best of the Genea-Blogs - Week of 26 July to 1 August 2026
- Listed new and updated record collections for MyHeritage, Findmypast, Ancestry.com, and FamilySearch.
4) Transcribed the 1794 quitclaim Deed of Ichabod Wilbore to David Kirby in Bristol County, Massachusetts for Amanuensis Monday with help from FamilySearch Full-Text Search.
5) Wrote one Life Memoir for an ancestor, and posted it on Genea-Musings and Substack:
6) Requested free AI tools to tell me about these genealogy and family history subjects, and posted them on Genea-Musings and Substack:
- Ask AI: "Please Transcribe and Summarize The 1900 U.S. Census Record for the Thomas Richmond Family in Leominster, Mass."
- Ask AI: 20 Record Types That Genealogists Should Search For

7) Wrote an AI-assisted short story about my parents lives and romance on Genea-Musings and Substack:
8) Wrote an AI-assisted short story about my grandparents lives and romance on Genea-Musings and Substack:
9) Posted another genealogy-related poem "The Genealogist's Lament" and song "The Genealogy Blues" in An AI Poem -- "The Genealogist's Lament," and AI Song "The Genealogy Blues." Used Canva.com to put the song video on YouTube.
10) Posted a genealogy-related poem and song written a year ago but never posted in An AI Poem -- "The Genealogist's Lament," and AI Song "The Genealogy Blues."
11) Housekeeping -- updated my Randy's AI and Genealogy page. Added a number of the recent Google NotebookLM Videos to my YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@RandySeaver.
12) Checked out Jason Duncan's Ancestor Map Builder 2.0. Pretty useful, will probably be improved over time.
13) Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles. My RootsMagic family tree now has 75,119 profiles (up 0 from last week) and 148,075 source citations (up 3).
14) My AncestryDNA test now has 52,308 DNA matches (up 55 from 26 July) with 2,219 "close" matches (20 cM or more) today (up 5), with 1 New ThruLines. Added Notes to no Matches, and added no new DNA match lines to RootsMagic. MyHeritageDNA test now has 14,773 DNA matches (up 27 from 26 July) for me, with 26 Theories of Family Relativity.
15) Wrote 23 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which one was a press release. The most viewed post last week was Amanuensis Monday -- 1793 Quitclaim Deed of David Kirby to John Kirby for Land in Westport, Bristol County, Massachusetts with 307 views. Genea-Musings had about 354,000 page views last week and over 902,000 views over the past month (lots of bots I think).
16) Real life events: Visited Linda several days this past week at her memory care facility. Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Finished reading Double Tap by Steve Martini and started Billy Striaght by Jonathan Kellerman. Watched the Padres games - they were 5-1 this past week and are 58-54.
NOTE: I spent about 30 hours on these genealogy activities this wee, learned quite a bit, and had some genealogy fun!.
