Best of the Genea-Blogs - 5 to 11 August 2012

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.
My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for the genealogy carnivals, or other meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  DNA Testing for Genealogy - Getting Started, Part Three and Part Four by CeCe Moore on the Geni Blog.   CeCe covers the basics of autosomal DNA tests and the results in this article.

*  George Ryskamp: Apples and OrangesRod DeGiulio: All About Records and Serendipity at the BYU Conference by the writer of The Ancestry Insider blog.  Mr. AI reports on more sessions at the BYU Family History Conference.

*  Writing: The Ten Suggestions by Harold Henderson on Midwestern Microhistory: A Genealogy Blog.  Harold has a great list for those who haven't gotten around to it.

*  When Is An Elopement not an Elopement? by Twila on the Thoughts from Polly's Granddaughter blog.  Funny what you can learn from a family story, a marriage record and some newspaper articles.  Then add politics...oh, my!

*  You know you are a genealogist when ... by Audrey Collins on The Family Recorder blog.  Audrey has some new endings for this old saying.  Great!

*  Nonpopulation Schedules by Michele Simmons Lewis on the Ask A Genealogist blog.  Michaele's excellent article covers the basics, and provides an example from her own researchj.

*  Serendipity Saturday by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  It's funny how this works, sometimes.

Several genea-bloggers wrote weekly pick posts and news summary posts this week, including:

*  Monday Morning Mentions by Lynn Palermo on The Armchair Genealogist blog.

*  Monday Recap for August 6 by Amanda on the Geni Blog.

*  Follow Friday - Fab Finds for August 10, 2012 by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History blog.

*  From the Blogs, August 10, 2012 by Michael Leclerc on the Mocavo Genealogy Blog.

*  Friday Finds - 08/10/12 by Julie Cahill Tarr on the GenBlog  blog.

I encourage readers to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Google Reader, RSS feed or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1280 genealogy bloggers using Google Reader, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Thanks for the mention, Randy, and I'm glad you enjoyed my my post. Knowing the enormous number of blogs that you follow, it's a great honour to be singled out for praise. Trouble is, I've now made myself an awfully hard act to follow...
