The assignment of Sylvanus Trip(e) to the family of John and Mary (Paine) has been speculative going back to George Randall's 1924 "Descendants of James son of John Tripp." Modern genealogists miss Randall's "and perhaps..." in his assignment of Sylvanus to this family. Unfortunately he offers on further explanation. The Tripp DNA project at ftDNA has documented descendants Sylvanus are genetically unrelated to descendants of John Tripp confirming Randall's apparent doubts about Sylvanus' parentage.
