Information about the Bemis family in America can be found in:

Colonel Thomas Waln-Morgan Draper, The Bemis History and Genealogy (San Francisco, Calif. : Stanley-Taylor Co., Printers, 1900).

The English Bemis family was, apparently, gleaned from an online family tree.

Randy - thanks for this posting. I too descend John (my notes call him John) Bemis and Anne Spray on my maternal side but from Mary's brother Joseph Bemis. Thanks for adding the reference to the Bemis family as I had not kept a good track of my sources of this line and believe I still have a lot of work to do in finding source documentation for this part of this line.

Randy:
I have been delving into the biography of one Charles Austin Bemis. He resided in Marlborough, New Hampshire from 1848 until 1926. He was the town librarian and the author of "History of Marlboro, NH". Quite an interesting gentleman.
I'd be willing to share the link to Charles' biography page on Wikitree if allowed.
