Tombstone Tuesday - James A., Mary Jane and Melissa Kemp in Delhi (Ontario) Cemetery

I knew from other Kemp researchers that my second great-grandparents, James Abraham Kemp (1831-1902) and Mary Jane (Sovereen) Kemp (1841-1874) were buried in Delhi Cemetery in Delhi, Norfolk County, Ontario.

However, there was no photograph of their gravestone, and there was no Find A Grave memorial for them.  So I created a Find A Grave memorial for them in May 2014, and then requested a photograph of the gravestone.  Recently, Find A Grave volunteer Cathy Beaudoin visited the cemetery and took a photograph of the gravestone, and added it to the memorials for James and Mary Jane (Sovereen) Kemp.

Here is the gravestone photograph provided by Cathy Beaudoin, who kindly permitted me to share it online:

The gravestone has an interesting outline with three high points - a central point probably representing James and the left and right side points representing his two wives.

The gravestone inscription says:

OUR
PARENTS

JAMES A. KEMP
1831-1902.
MELISSA - HIS WIFE
1840-1902.
MARY JANE - HIS WIFE
1841-1874.

The Find A Grave memorial for James Abraham Kemp (1831-1902) looks like this:

There is a similar memorial for Mary Jane (Sovereen) Kemp (1841-1874).  There is no memorial yet for Melissa (Wilson) Kemp (1840-1902).  I will try to create one soon.  I need to add family links and perhaps a short biography to the memorials for James Abraham Kemp and Mary Jane (Sovereen) Kemp.

James Abraham and Mary Jane (Sovereen) Kemp married in 1861, and had five children:

*  Sarah Elizabeth (Kemp) Cropp (1862-1946)
*  Seymour Kemp (1864-1877)
*  Melvina Marylis (Kemp) Trembley (1866-1929)
*  Georgianna (Kemp) Auble (1968-1952) - my great-grandmother
*  James Alexander Kemp (1872-1934).

James Abraham and Melissa (Wilson) Kemp married in 1876, and had one child:

*  Alfred Francis Edward Kemp (1880-1953).

My thanks to Cathy Beaudoin for fulfilling my photograph request and granting permission for me to share the photo with my Genea-Musings readers and add it to my RootsMagic database.
