Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 279: 1728 Marriage Record of Michael Metcalf and Melatiah Hamant in Medway, Mass.

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - time to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the  marriage record of Michael Metcalf and Melatiah Hamant on 2 July 1728 in Medway, Massachusetts:

The marriage record is the last one on the right-hand page above:

The transcription of this record is:

Michael Metcalf of Medway & Melatiah Hamant of Medfield
were married by Mr. Buckman July 2nd 1728

The source citation for this record is:

Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988, digital images, Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com : accessed 3 July 2014), "Medway Births, Marriages and Deaths," unnumbered page (image 133 of 1171), Michael Metcalf and Melatiah Hamant marriage entry, 1728.

This record is obviously a transcription of an earlier record since all of the entries are in the same hand.  So it is a Derivative Source (a transcription), Primary Information (likely first recorded near the time of the event) and Direct Evidence (it provides the marriage parties and marriage date).

Michael Metcalf (1706-1771) and Melatiah Hamant (1704-1751) are my sixth great-grandparents.  My line descends through their son, Burgess Metcalf (1741-1816).
