Best of the Genea-Blogs - 3 to 9 July 2016

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  GRIP: A Week in Review by Dana Leeds on The Enthusiastic Genealogist blog.  Dana describes her week.

*  But I KNOW My Great Grandma's Name! So Why Am I Stuck? by Lorine McGinnis Schulze on the Olive Tree Genealogy Blog.  Names do get changed according to Lorine.

*  MyHeritage and Geni:  Part I and Part II by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Judy gets answers, especially about the recently announced DNA matching features.

*  Ancestry searches soar in aftermath of Brexit by Chris Paton on The GENES Blog.  Interesting.

*  Delving Into Original 18th Century Sources, Part 2 by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.  Linda describes her research for a 1775 death record in Nantucket, Mass.

*  What You Might Be Missing in Marriage Records by Amy Johnson Crow on the Amy Johnson Crow blog.  This is an excellent example of finding all the information on a record.

*  The Stages of Genetic Genealogy Addiction by guest blogger Evan Amos on Roberta J. Estes' DNA-eXplained - Genetic Genealogy blog.  Heh.

*  Life of a Record From the Barbour Collection by the writer of The Ancestry Insider blog.  From a birth record to an erroneous Ancestry.com record in one blog post.  Fascinating!

*  The Economy of Free and Nexus: The Spot Between Free and Fee by Jacqi Stevens on A Family Tapestry blog.  Deep thoughts from Jacqi.

*  How to Find Recent Genealogy Records That Are Not Online Yet by Lisa Louise Cooke on her Genealogy Gems blog.  Lisa has suggestions.

*  Ten Ways to Share Your Genealogy by Heather Wilkinson Rojo on the Nutfield Genealogy blog.  Nice list!

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1590 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
