My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for the genealogy carnivals, or other meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.
Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:
* A Weekend With Judy Russell by GeneGinny on the Ginny's Genealogy Journey blog. Ginny attended the Seattle Genealogical Society's seminar with Judy as the presenter, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
* The New Genealogy Theme - Fluff and Stuff by Lee R. Drew on the Family History With the Lineagekeeper blog. Lee doesn't think that the "salvation of genealogy" lies with photos and stories.
* Gen Y: The Top Lessons Learned From Genealogy by D. Joshua Taylor on The Huffington Post blog. Josh highlights how and why Gen Yers get involved in genealogy and fmaily history.
* Genealogists are Not Being Pushed Out, Reinforcements are Being Invited In by Devon Lee on The Patient Genealogist blog. Devon shares his views in reaction to a post last week by James Tanner.
* Learning Genealogy Round-Up: May 2013 by Shelley Bishop on The In-Depth Genealogist blog. Shelley summarizes educational opportunities announced in May.
* Evidentia and Mastering Genealogical Proof by Jenny Lanctot on the Are My Roots Showing? blog. Jenny higlhights revisions made to Evidentia to incorporate the MGP information.
* Spring with 40 Acres and a Plow by Michelle Taggart on the A Southern Sleuth blog. Michelle describes one year of farming in Georgia in the late 1800s. Fascinating, thanks to a diary.
* What I Found in the New Massachusetts Deeds Online by Diane Boumenot on the One Rhode Island Family blog. Diane found deeds for her ancestor, transcribed and analyzed them - what a great example!
* You Never Forget Your First Time by John D. Tew on the Filiopietism Prism blog. John is funny and honest...enjoy! BTW, I'm John's cousin in his Warren line.
* RPAC Report: April and May 2013 by Barbara Mathews on the BCG Springboard: News and Notes blog. Barbara updates us on the Records and Preservation Access Committee work.
* The Value of Volunteering by Jen Baldwin on The In-Depth Genealogist blog. Jen encourages creative ways to help your local and virtual societies.
