[NOTE:  This profile has been edited to include the parentage of Ann Marshman as John and Anne (Angel) Marshman of Hilperton, Wiltshire.]

Ann (Marshman) Richman (1788-1867) is #41 on my Ahnentafel list, my third great-grandmother.  She married in 1811 to #40 John Richman (1788-1867).

From English census records, Ann Marshman was born between 1781 (age 59 in 1841 census) and 1784 (age 67 in 1851 census), apparently in Devizes in Wiltshire according to census records.

John and Anne (Angel) Marshman had five children (Thomas, Elizabeth, Martha, James and John)  baptized in Hilperton between 1767 and 1783, and were very likely the parents of Ann Marshman, perhaps born in Devizes.  The mother, Anne (Angel) Marshman was buried in Hilperton in 1795.  This John Marshman was a weaver, and probably resided in Hilperton in the 1785 to 1800 time period, and probably died in Trowbridge in 1806.

The Hilperton Parish Register say that Ann Marshman a spinster of Hilperton married John Richman a bachelor of of Hilperton by banns on 8 February 1811 by curate J. Bailes of the St. Michael’s church in Hilperton (Church of England) with the mark of X for John Richman and Ann Marshman, with witness Thomas Richman, in the presence of Richard Hiscock.

The baptisms of the eight children of John and Ann (Marshman) Richman are recorded in the Hilperton Parish Records between 1811 and 1825. They were:

  • Elizabeth Richman, born before 6 October 1811, Hilperton, Wiltshire, England; married Thomas Hogan, before 1871, Hilperton, Wiltshire, England; died about August 1897, Hilperton, Wiltshire, England.

  • Sarah Richman, born before 3 April 1814, Hilperton, Wiltshire, England; married James Thompson, 22 September 1847, Bath, Somerset, England; died 24 January 1891, Hilperton, Wiltshire, England.

  • John Richman, born before 13 February 1816, Hilperton, Wiltshire, England; married Maria Matthews, 11 October 1835, Hilperton, Wiltshire, England; died before 1 June 1884, Bradford On Avon, Wiltshire, England.

  • Ann Richman was born before 8 March 1818 in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England. She was baptized on 8 March 1818 at St. Michael's Church in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England.

  • James Richman, born 22 April 1821, Hilperton, Wiltshire, England; married Hannah Rich, 7 September 1845, Hilperton, Wiltshire, England; died 20 December 1912, Putnam, Windham, Connecticut, United States.

  • Thomas Richman was born before 22 June 1823 in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England. He was baptized on 22 June 1823. He died before 11 September 1844 at the age of 21 in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England. Thomas was buried on 11 September 1844 in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England.

  • Mary Richman was born before 22 June 1823 in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England. She was baptized on 22 June 1823 at St. Michael's Church in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England. She died before March 1825 at the age of 1 in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England.

  • Mary Richman was born before 23 March 1825 in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England. She was baptized on 23 March 1825. She died before 22 May 1825 at the age of 0 in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England.63 Mary was buried on 22 May 1825 in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England.

In the 1841 Census for Wiltshire, the John Richman family resided on Marsh Lane in Hilperton Marsh.  The household included:

  •  John Richman Senior - age 52, male, a coal hauler, born Wiltshire
  •  Ann Richman - age 59, female, a weaver, born Wiltshire
  • Elizabeth Richman - age 30, female, a weaver, born Wiltshire
  • James Richman - age 20, male, Ag Lab, born Wiltshire
In the 1851 Census for Wiltshire, the John Richman family resided in Hilperton Marsh, Wiltshire, England.  The household included:
  •  John Richman - husband, age 59, butcher, born Hilperton, Wiltshire
  • Ann Richman - wife, age 67, born Devizes
  • Elizabeth Richman - daughter, age 38, weaver, born Hilperton
  • Mary Richman - granddaughter age 8, born Hilperton
  • Rosa Richman - granddaughter, age 3, scholar, born Bath, Somerset
Ann (Marshman) Richman died before 31 July 1856, when her burial was recorded in the Hilperton Parish Registers on 31 July 1856.
