Best of the Genea-Blogs - 4 to 10 January 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Reunion, Part II: Telling My Mother by Michael J. Lacopo on the Hoosier Daddy? blog.  Michael finally identified his maternal grandfather - this is about telling his mother her birth father's name.

*  A Few of Your Responses and Questions (and Our Replies!) Following Our Breaking Down Brick Walls Seminar on the FindMyPast blog.  Did you miss this seminar with D. Joshua Taylor?  It's embedded in this post, along with attendees questions and answers.

*  Tuesday's Tip:  An Explanation and a Template by Miriam J. Robbins on the Ancestories: The Stories of My Ancestors blog.  Miriam offers a timely tip, and a useful template.

*  Freemasonry Records for Genealogy by Heather Collins on the Of Trees and Ink blog.  Heather summarizes the availability and usefulness of these records.

*  Wisdom Wednesday - Getting Over Source Snobbery by Laura Cosgrove Lorenzana on The Last Leaf on this Branch blog.  Lucky Laura found a treasure trove of family information in an Ancestry Member Tree.

*  Benjamin Barnes of Hingham, Massachusetts (1747-1833): Farmer, Patriot, Landowner, Ancestor by Polly Kimmitt on the Pollyblog blog.  Polly's heirloom 1777 deed fell of the wall, so she wrote up her ancestor's biography.

*  My Top Six 2014 Genealogical Finds by Jacquie Schattner on the Seeds to Tree blog.  Jacquie describes her 2014 genealogical research gems.

*  EVACUATE!! by Alona Tester on the LoneTester HQ blog.  Alona had to evacuate during a fire around her home in South Australia, and lists what she took with her.

*  PMC Conference; Day 1 and Day 2 by Jill Morelli on the Genealogy Certification: My Personal Journal blog.  Jill described her experiences at the APG PMC in Salt Lake City.

*  Somebody Answered My Plea to Help Solve a Brick Wall, and I Paid Him! by Barbara Poole on the Life From the Roots blog.  Barbara summarizes the work done by a paid researcher.

*  The Great Family Share Challenge by Michael J. Leclerc on the Mocavo Genealogy Blog.  Michael suggests a year-long challenge to share family stories.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  GAGs - GeniAus Gems - 9 January 2015 by Jill Ball on the GeniAus blog.

*  Friday Finds and Follows: 9 January 2015 by Miriam J. Robbins on the Ancestories: The Stories of My Ancestors blog.

*  Recommended Reads by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.

*  Blog Posts and News Stories for Genealogists, January 9, 2015 by Michael J. Leclerc on the Mocavo Genealogy Blog.

*  Follow Friday ~ Fab Finds for January 9, 2015 by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog.

*  Friday Finds -- 01/09/15 by Julie Cahill Tarr on Julie's Genealogy & History Hub blog.

*  This Week's Creme de la Creme -- January 10, 2015 by Gail Dever on the Genealogy a la Carte blog.

*  Saturday Serendipity (10 January 2015) by John D. Tew on the Filiopietism Prism blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1550 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Thankyou Randy for including my Evacuate post in your "Best of" list. And I do apologise for the delay in thanking you, January has been chaotic to say the least.
