Randy at New York Public Library -- Post 368 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday

I'm posting old (and sometimes new) family photographs from my collection on Wednesdays, but they won't be wordless posts like others do - I simply am incapable of having a wordless post.

Here is one of the most precious (to me) images from my Seaver/Carringer family collection:

There I am at my "station," on 25 October 2008, in the Irma and Paul Milstein Division of United States History, Local History, and Genealogy room at the New York Public Library.

The view below is from my seat towards the staff part of the room:

Looking the other direction from the front of the view above is the rest of the room:

I was surprised by how small this room was in one of the premier public libraries in the country.  As I recall, the shelves were closed to browsing, and I had to put a form in to see specific works.

Here is a photo from the front of the library:

This day also gave me my first experience on the New York subway.  I made it from the hotel in Queens into the Library and back, but did avoid the rush hour.

The genealogy room is small-ish because there's a separate room next door for microfilm, across the way for maps, and on the other side of the building for newspapers. There's genealogy all around the NYPL! :-). Claire Keenan
