Best of the Genea-Blogs - 1-7 November 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Review of 1939 English and Welsh Register Release and More On FindmyPast's 1939 National Register for England and Wales by Chris Paton on The British GENES Blog.  Chris reviews this important record collection.

*  In Search of a Bond With My 20th Great-Grandmother by Laura Hedgecock on the Treasure Chest of Memories blog.  Laura describes her feelings of a visit to Lincoln Cathedral.

*  Hunting for Cousins in England's 1939 Register by Liz Loveland on the My Adventures in Genealogy blog.  Liz used coupons to find some of her target families in the 1939 Register.

*  5 Photos You Should Take at the Cemetery by Amy Johnson Crow on the Amy Johnson Crow blog.  Amy has excellent suggestions.

*  6 Sources That May Name Your Ancestor's Parents by Lisa Louise Cooke on Lisa Louise Cooke's Genealogy Gems blog.  A nice list.

*  What is the Future of Genealogy Blogs? by James Tanner on the Genealogy's Star blog.  James observes and opines.  Do you agree?

*  The True Future of Blogging by Pat Richley-Erickson on the DearMYRTLE Genealogy Blog.  Myrt provides some history and opines on the future.

*  What Genealogy Will Your Children and Grandchildren Do If You Have Finished it All? by Wayne Shepheard on the Discover Genealogy blog.  Good question.  Wayne has some answers.

*  Prepare Before a Visit to the Family History Library by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.  Excellent suggestions.

*  50 Gifts for Genealogists - 2015 by Diane Boumenot on the One Rhode Island Family blog.  Ah, my wish list!

*  Introducing Search Connect[TM] - Every Search is Now a Record! by Esther on the MyHeritage Blog.  This new feature may prove very useful.

*  The Glass Eye, Memories Fade, Records Preserve by Jay H. Fonkert on the Four Generations Genealogy blog.  Jay remembers things about his grandfather, but he found records to support the memories.

*  Digging Up Death Data by Larru Naukam on The In-Depth Genealogist blog.  Larry discusses death notices, obituaries, etc.

*  Exploring the New Ancestry.com DNA Feature: Total cMs by Kitty Cooper on Kitty Cooper's Blog.  Kitty shows how to find this information.

*  Ancestry's New "Amount of Shared DNA" - What Does It Mean? by Roberta J. Estes on the DNAeXplained -- Genetic Genealogy blog.  More on the AncestryDNA Shared DNA results.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1590 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
