Best of the Genea-Blogs - 19 to 25 August 2018

Dozens of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

Joseph Coleman: When is a Death Record Not a Death Record? When It's Not! by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.

Ancestry Indexing Update by Marcia Philbrook on the Heartland Genealogy blog.

*  How to get the AncestryDNA Ethnicity Report Update (Beta) by History Chick on the Genealogical Musings blog.

*  Library and Archives Canada Updates Online Censuses Page and Releases Expanded Finding Aid by Gail Dever on the Genealogy √† la Carte blog.

The Archive Lady:  Always Check for Loose Records by Melissa Barker on the Abundant Genealogy blog.

The Widow of St. Casimir by Michael Dwyer on the Vita Brevis blog.

How to Find Free Genealogy Handouts by Alyson Mansfield on the OnGenealogy blog.

*  DNA: Can siblings have different ethnicity estimates? by Esther on the MyHeritage Blog.

*  An Indexed Record ≠ a Source Document by Nancy Messier on the My Ancestors And Me blog.

The Inexactness of Dates in Genealogy by James Tanner on the Genealogy's Star blog.

Why Research Associates? by Michael John Neill on the Rootdig blog.

12 Ways To Get Started With Family History by Bob Taylor on The Family History Guide Blog.

Figuring Out An Ancestor's Actual Birth Year by Kitty Cooper on Kitty Cooper's Blog.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

*  Friday's Family History Finds by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.

*  Friday Finds: Week 34 - 2018 by Martin Roe Eidhammer on the Norwegian Genealogy ... and then some blog.

*  Friday Fossicking, 24th August 2018 by Crissouli on the That Moment in Time blog.

This Week's Creme de la Creme -- August 25, 2018 by Gail Dever on the Genealogy a la Carte blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 900 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Thank you for including my post in your "Best of..." this week, Randy. I appreciate it. Thanks, too, for pointing us to other great posts we may have missed.

Thank you for including my post about Joseph Coleman's premature death. It is much appreciated.

You might smile at my post regarding my maternal grandparents, who were married twice on the same day due to, shall we say, language barriers, which mixed up who was the groom and who was the bride.
