Monday Genea-Pourri - 25 February 2019

Here is a summary of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group on Wednesday at the library, with 19 in attendance.  For most of the  two-hour meeting, I highlighted FamilyTreeDNA ethnicity estimates, family tree, DNA matches, and the chromosome browser, plus the Genetic Affairs spreadsheet I'm using.  Several attendees shared their DNA challenges and successes.

2)  Moderated the San Diego Genealogical Society RootsMagic Users Group on Saturday with 14 in attendance.   In response to attendee questions, we reviewed the Ancestry TreeShare p[rocess, the best way to bring an Ancestry tree to RootsMagic, making and exporting a GEDCOM file, how to change a name globally, and how to make a report for a specific occupation or cause of death.

3)  Transcribed another deed for Amanuensis Monday - 1839 Deed of Zachariah Hildreth to Aaron Hildreth in Townsend, Mass.

4)  Wrote a biography of 6th great-grandfather #43
5 Elizabeth (Wills) Laver (1730-1796) of South Petherton, Somerset  for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.

5)  Watched one Family Tree Webinar this past week -
Applying Evidence to Genealogical Research Questions, by Melissa Johnson.  Also watched the Family History Fanatics YouTube video for Getting Ready for #RootsTech 2019 - Family History Fanatics LIVE !

6)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt.  Today's webinar was from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, with Pat talking with about 30 attendees to RootsTech.  I helped by finding and posting websites and blogs of the attendees.

7)  I bought a FOREVER box last March at RootsTech, and finished filling it to send in for digitization.  I selected 23 home movies from the family collection, created a list of them, attached name stickers and numbers to the film boxes, filled out the order form.  I will take it to the FedEx office today or tomorrow.   Hopefully, these will entertain my descendants more than blog posts do :).

8)  Spent quite a bit of time evaluating changes to the AncestryDNA presentation of DNA Matches and finding common ancestors.  More on this from RootsTech this week.

9)  Downloaded the rest of the RootsTech 2019 SLC Conference syllabus articles to my hard drive.  Printed several of them out.

10) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 29,459 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.

11)  I continue to use Web Hints from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 52,520 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 101,905 source citations.   I TreeShared three times during the last week (about 320 profiles), and resolved about 2,000 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 100,829 to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

12) Wrote 21 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which three were press releases.  The most popular post last week was
Treasure Chest Thursday - 1780 Military Payment Record for John Underhill Jr. in Chester, N.H.  with ov
er 435 views.
