Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Your Favorite Photo of Your Father

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment if you choose to play along (cue the Mission Impossible music, please!):

1) It's Father's Day in the USA on Sunday, so let's talk about our fathers.

2)  Show us your favorite photograph of your father - the one that shows him in the best light possible.  Describe the occasion, the setting, and the people in the photograph.

3)  Tell us about it in your own blog post, in a comment on this post, or in a Facebook post.

Here's mine:

Frederick Walton Seaver Jr. (1911-1983) married Betty Virginia Carringer on 12 July 1942 in San Diego, California, and they had three sons, Randy, Stanley and Scott.

The photograph above shows the entire family - the last "good" photograph of the five of us - on the occasion of brother Scott's first marriage to Susie on 29 August 1976.  The setting was in San Diego on the grounds of the University of San Diego.

On this occasion, life for Fred was pretty good:  he was 64 years old, all three sons had moved out and were married, grandchildren had started to arrive (two by this date, a third on the way), he was retired from work, he still had outside interests (TV sports, a handyman's workshop, gardening), and they were relatively healthy.

Life for my father went downhill after that - my mother's parents died and he had to deal with that, they moved to Point Loma in 1978 to my grandparents home, sold the 30th Street properties, and they both were diagnosed with cancer in 1982 - their first real health crisis.  My father died on 26 May 1983 at age 71 of complications from prostate cancer that resulted in a heart attack in the hospital.

You never know when the last conversation, the last kiss, the last "good" photograph of your family will occur.  Practice loving your family often!
