Monday Genea-Pourri - 1 July 2019

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Annual Picnic at Sam Seat's house on Wednesday, with 20 in attendance.  We enjoyed excellent barbecue and potluck food, and admired the Seat's backyard under a shadescreen.  The program was the attendees sharing stories about their childhood summer memories.  I shared about being a free range kid roaming San Diego and Balboa Park on my bike and flexie, playing baseball at the park, and taking a small plane trip to Vancouver BC in 1956 with my best friend's family.

2)  Participated in the Mondays With Myrt webinar on Zoom today.  Pat K. discussed a new book, Digging Up History by Sheila Connolly; Liv attended from her grandfather's 19th century house in Norway, and described pictures from her Facebook page, plus Norwegian patronymic and farm names; John attended his daughter's wedding in Reno; RootsTech 2019 speakers; my Amanuensis Monday posts; "It's all on Ancestry.com" (well, no!); American Ancestors, Scotland's People, DAR and JewishGen websites; the new Ancestry Hints Feedback feature.

3)  Watched one Legacy Family Tree webinar -- A Month's Worth of Must-Have Tech Tips To Start Using Today, by Gena Philibert-Ortega.

5)  Wrote and posted a biography of 6th great-grandfather #482 Jacobus Van Vorst (1703-1797) of Schenectady, New York for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.

6)  Reorganized my Amanuensis Monday Posts page (a curated list) so that Land Records are by person rather than year.

6) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 31,430 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.

8)  I continue to use Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 53,869 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 105,958 source citations.   I TreeShared once this week updating 216 profiles, and I resolved 345 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 112,398 to be resolved, but I try to work on them weekly.

9) Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was
Amanuensis Monday -- 1790 Deed of John Parker to Nathan Gates in Gardner, Massachusetts with over 621 views.
