Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 13 April 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Hosted a Zoom meeting with Chula Vista Genealogical Society members for the monthly Research Group on Wednesday.  We had 10 attendees.  I demonstrated using the Ancestry card catalog along with searching for and saving a record to my computer, showed my latest MyHeritage InColor photos, provided webinar links, and discussed my Whittle and Richman research in English records.

2)  Participated in the San Diego Genealogical Society's DNA Group meeting on Zoom on Saturday, hosted by Colin Whitney.  He discussed the basics of finding common ancestors with your DNA matches, and using the Genetic Affairs AutoTree feature.  We had 15 attendees.

3)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt on Zoom.  We discussed the new Native-American database on American Ancestors, other American Ancestors records and webinars, finding and preserving family Bibles, Dave's genealogy article in the newspaper, my Moses Brigham probate records, the Family Tree Live virtual conference this week, the update of the 1939 Register, and more.  Also visited Mini-Myrt Zoom meetings every day except Sunday for 20 minutes of checking in.

4)  Watched the Ask the Legacy Software Experts webinar by Geoff Rasmussen and friends.

5)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of 7th great-grandfather #536 Nathaniel Knowlton (1683-1760) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

7)  Added Notes to about 25 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors, and added six AncestryDNA ThruLines to the RootsMagic family tree database.  Reviewed new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

8) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 35,213 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 169).

9)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 56,931 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 126) , and 118,928 source citations (up 357).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree two times this week updating 477 profiles, and I resolved 835 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 128,557 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

10)  Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was Sharing Genealogy Information via Zoom Meetings with over 274 views.

11)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much.  I went to the grocery store on Thursday, taking advantage of the early hours for seniors.  I watched the church choir and pastor's sermon on YouTube on Sunday.  It rained almost every day last week, with two inches on Friday.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy and wash my hands a lot.
