Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1683 Birth Record of Nathaniell Knowlton in Ipswich, Mass.

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1683 birth record of Nathaniell Knowlton in the Ipswich, Massachusetts town record book:

The birth record for Nathaniell Knowlton is the first entry on the left-hand page:

This record says:

"Nathaniell, son of Nathaniell Knowlton, borne the 3'd of May 1683."

The source citation for this record is:

"Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988," indexed database and digital image, Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com), Ipswich > "Church Records, with Births, Marriages, and Deaths," page 38 (image 53 of 180), Nathaniell Knowlton birth entry, 3 May 1683.

This Ipswich town record is a Derivative Source (because it is obviously a transcription of an earlier record) with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the name of Nathaniel Knowlton and his father, and the birth date and place.  The Original Source is a town record book birth register that is no longer available.  This is still Primary Information and Direct Evidence for the names and birth event.

Nathaniel Knowlton (1683-1760) was the first child and son of Nathaniel and Deborah (Jewett) Knowlton of Ipswich, Massachusetts.  He married (1) Mary Bennett (1686-1717) in 1703 in Ipswich, and married (2) Reform Trescott (1690-????) in 1717 in Ipswich.

Nathaniel and Mary (Bennett) Knowlton are my 7th great-grandparents, through their son Jeremiah Knowlton (1713-1752) who married Sarah Allen (1717-1796) in 1735 in Sudbury, Massachusetts.
